Plastic is killing us all - 7 ways you can help

We are sure you have all heard the shocking news on plastic waste and the horrific impact it has on marine wildlife

We all need to make a bigger effort in cutting down single-use plastic and to help you get started – here are seven effortless ways of HOW TO REFUSE PLASTIC:

1. GET A BAG FOR LIFE

Not only can they look trendy, they are less likely to break under a heavy Prosecco load :)

You can get the below bag from Baby Yorke Designs

2. INVEST IN A REUSABLE BOTTLE

See the different styles at Swell Bottle and you are bound to find the one that suits you the most. UK based company AMARA is selling a good selection of S'well water bottles.

3. BUY HARD SOAP BARS NOT LIQUID HAND-WASH IN PLASTIC BOTTLES

There are so many individual and local soap makers, who use organic and all natural ingredients in their soap. The team at Coastal Scandi sell soaps made of pure essential oils, making them suitable for the most sensitive of skin types. As an added benefit the rope makes it convenient to hang in the shower.

USE WHEAT, PAPER OR BAMBOO STRAWS

Plastic straws are used for a few minutes but stay on our planet for centuries, exposing us to unhealthy toxic chemicals. To combat the problem use either bamboo or paper straws, as they are biodegradable; or better yet - skip the straw and sip your drink instead.

5. DO NOT USE ANY PLASTIC-WARE FOR PARTY FOOD

Instead of plastic single-use plates, use bamboo plates, which are completely natural so there is no risk of any chemicals or flavours leaching into the food. Disposal at the end of the product life is extremely simple: they can be disposed of with food waste or rinsed & composted.

6. SAY 'NO' TO BALLOONS

Instead, use recyclable tissue paper pompoms, which can look rather stylish too.

7. OPT FOR FRESH FRUITS & VEGGIES DELIVERED IN BULK

We love Abel & Cole who deliver organic food in bulk instead of providing everything in single serving plastic packages. As an added bonus, getting fruit & veg delivered cuts down time on your weekly shopping too.
